Every time I do one of these fundraisers…I get to the end and go…okay, that’s it. Not doing another one of those. They take too much out of me.
And then I roll my eyes at myself and remind myself just how amazing it is to be able to raise sooooo much money without having to organise an event or go door to door selling stuff.
Like seriously…it’s sooooo little effort for such a huge reward. And yes, it does take energy…but that’s a tiny price to pay for the outcome.
All that to say: WE FINISHED THE BIRTHDAY FUNDRAISER!!!
And I even managed to stay awake until after midnight to see the final result.
$11584!!!!
Only to receive a message from my childhood bestie in Sweden (Johanna from my book) to say that she had asked some workmates to contribute and they had raised $340!
Plus there was someone who didn’t want to use the link and transferred $100 to me directly.
$12024 is a MUCH better number to split in half :)
So yes. 50% will go to Greta here in Melbourne who supports 12 women IN Gaza. (if you want to contribute to her ongoing work please use this PayID starfishkeeper@hotmail.com )
And the other 50% will go to another friend who I’m keeping anonymous who will be going back to work in a “soup kitchen” in Cairo for families who have LEFT Gaza and in total limbo land.
To be honest, I’m so tempted to go over there and help out. But I totally know money is much better spent on me raising awareness and not buying expensive tickets.
So, the sweet offer for Melbourne peeps:
This Tuesday is Nup to the Cup Day. Which means we have a public holiday. I would like to invite you to come to the Dragonfly Cafe, 130 High Street Preston.
I will be there from 10 to 2. I will also be bringing the world’s most delicious cheesecake.
I have no way of predicting how many people will come so obviously the closer to 10 you arrive the more chance of cheesecake.
I will ask you to make a donation to Dragonfly Cafe and then you can of course buy hot drinks there. (There isn’t a kitchen so don’t come expecting lunch)
The invite is open to anyone who isn’t annoying and if you have any coeliac friends I highly recommend you let them know that everything I bake is coeliac safe.
I really hope to see you there.
Veronica
