Meanwhile in Cambodia...
🚨
As you probably know, all my Facebook & Instagram accounts are gone.
Well, my business one is still up but I don't have access to it 🤦🏼♀️
The timing is of course 💩 for many reasons.
But today I got asked to pay for bags of rice for the female tuk tuk drivers I support in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
So the timing feels particularly bad.
Unfortunately my Cambodian emergency fund is empty, after helping pay for medical expenses that are now monthly (and still no answers after numerous tests).
So I'm making the uncomfortable decision to ask you guys for help.
Normally I have 21 thousand supporters on Insta and 13 thousand supporters on Facebook to ask for help.
Instead I have 600 supporters here on Substack 🙈
But please know even a tiny amount helps if enough of us jump in.
In Cambodia I used to love how the monks would go door to door asking for donations. People gave what they could. There were zero expectations of the amount.
But they did have a communal approach which meant lots & lots of tiny contributions that collectively made a big difference 🐜 🐜 🐜 🐜 🐜
Just in case you're wondering, when I ask for help in situations like this, 100% of what's given is passed on to the person in need. One of my pet peeves with donating to organisations is that such a huge percentage is removed for "expenses".
I understand why, I just don't want to participate in that. Which is why I'm super careful to make sure 100% goes to Cambodia (of course I do the same for call outs to help in Palestine).
Rice costs about $1 per kilo in Cambodia.
Ideally we'd like to buy 10kg of rice for each tuk tuk driver this month. Business is particularly bad with a combination of very few tours being booked and on going tensions with Thailand.
Any extra donations will remain in the Cambodian Emergency fund and it really really helps having a buffer in there since there are now regular medical costs.
If you'd like to help these are the options:
Easiest for me because it goes straight into the correct account:

If you already have my other bank account details and you feel it's easier, just make sure you write "rice" as reference and I'll transfer your donation into the emergency account. It's just more time consuming for me and my book keeper gets grumpy 😄
Hopefully you don't mind me asking...
Veronica
(I just realised that many of you wouldn't be aware that I used to live in Cambodia and my business www.happilymade.com.au is all about supporting marginalised women in Cambodia. So these are women I've personally met.)

I know it's hard to ask, but most people don't mind - and if they do, who cares! Wonderful work you're doing:)
Apologies, I've made your book keeper grumpy but have sent a few dollars for some rice. I know how hard it is to keep asking as I'm one of 3 founders of a small but growing NGO who supports displaced people. Keep doing what you're doing, all power to you.
