Oh Sydney 🫂
One year ago...
☔️☔️☔️ ONE YEAR AGO TODAY ☔️☔️☔️
Sydney Harbour Bridge was covered in a sea of colourful umbrellas as we collectively sent a message to the families in G♡za:
☔️ WE SEE YOU ☔️
☔️ WE LOVE YOU ☔️
☔️ WE WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT DURING A GEN0CIDE!! ☔️
I remember so clearly catching the train into Sydney to get there early and the city was sooooo quiet. My heart sank as I looked at the heavy clouds rolling in and realised that most people would probably stay home with such a grim forecast.
I took photos of empty trains and train stations. When I first moved to Australia I lived in Sydney for a year and I had never seen the city so bizarrely quiet. It felt eerie.
I just hoped there would be enough people showing up so we could still attempt to walk across the bridge together.
BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!
Just like a beach is empty before a tsunami...THE MASSES SHOWED UP!!!
I've never experienced anything like it.
✨️ Thousands and thousands of every day Australians flooded the stations and the streets ✨️
And the sky opened up with torrential rain.
After attempting to meet with a group of Jews so we could march together, I gave up. I quickly realised I wouldn't be able to "honour the experience" while attempting to remain with the group.
And it was extremely difficult manoeuvring my banner in the wind & rain.
Instead of marching across the bridge I decided I'd just remain in one spot.
I was having so many people wanting to shake my hand, hug me and take photos...so standing still felt much more doable.
That turned out to be the best decision ever.
Because I ended up having one of the most profound experiences of my life.
I was completely SHOWERED with soooooo much love & gratitude from absolute strangers.
A Jewish woman who was also there by herself had asked if she could join me and I remember looking over at her and she had tears pouring down her face.
She told me later that she wished her friends could experience this. They had all warned her to not come along, that she wouldn't be safe.
And instead she got to receive a complete outpouring of love.
It's hard to find words to describe what took place but it was by far one of the most intimate and humbling experiences of our lives.
Sydney Harbour Bridge deeply shifted something inside me.
And I believe that it deeply shifted something inside the Australian communal consciousness.
And I also believe it absolutely TERRIFIED the Zi0nists.
About six months later I attended a "Combat Antisemitism" event here in Melbourne. And Jillian Segal had the audacity to refer to the March For Humanity on the Sydney Harbour Bridge as antisemitic.
We know she has absolutely no issues with distorting the truth to fit her fear mongering & racist narrative. But this was next level. Even the two cops sitting next to me acknowledged that Segal twisted the truth.
I don't know how, but I want us to create another opportunity to gather like we did a year ago today.
The mass slaughter in G♡za hasn't stopped and we have seen the death cult spread further and further into other parts of Pa|estine as well as over the northern border into Lebanon.
*We need another reminder that there are more of us than them*
Humanity will win 🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂
