🌞 Regimented or flexible?
🤔
I asked my chiropractor if he's one of those really regimented people with his food.
Or if he's pretty relaxed within the confines of his allergies.
(He gives regimented vibes)
His answer not only surprised me, but it has stayed with me, so I'm sharing it here in case it interests anyone else.
Oh...and I searched my phone for "sun" photos...and can't decide which one to pick.
So please let me know your favourite in this context.

Me: So are you one of those dudes that is totally regimented with what you eat? Besides your allergies that is.
Chiro: No, definitely not!
Me: Interesting. You seem like you would be.
Chiro: You know, I read an article about regimented thinking. And how a lot of it was based on this narrow view of the sun.
Me: Huh???
Chiro: There was this belief that we should be like the sun. Completely consistent. Rise in the morning. And set at night. No exceptions to the rule. The one constant about life.
Me: Okaaay.
Chiro: And it impacted how people viewed themselves and how they "should" be.
Me: Weird but okay.
Chiro: But then this philosopher said that it's a very one dimensional way to perceive the sun. Because there's actually a lot more nuance to the sun than just rising and setting. Every day the sun stays in the sky for a different amount of time. It's not as "consistent" as people tried to make it.
Me: True! And then of course there's the weather as well! Yesterday the sky couldn't have been bluer here in Melbourne...and today it felt like I was driving through a cloud to get here.
Chiro: Ha! Yes, the sun isn't as "all powerful" as we like to think.
Me: Or there's a lot more variables to factor in.
Chiro: Exactly.
Me: I love this. I've been thinking a lot about regimented and flexible mindsets. And this is such a good example of the difference. Life is so much richer and REAL and connected to the moment when we are flexible and open to nuance. I'm very wired for regimented thinking so I've needed to really CHOOSE a more fluid approach to life. It hasn't come naturally to me.
Chiro: Yes, it can definitely be a comfort zone for people.
